Venturis FX-2 BIOS Update Utilities =============================================== The Venturis FX-2 BIOS Update Utilities consists of two diskettes: The System Flash Utility Diskette - used to update the BIOS The Crisis Recovery Diskette - used to restore the BIOS The System Flash Utility Diskette contains the following files: COMMAND.COM BIOS.ROM PHLASH.EXE PLATFORM.BIN AUTOEXEC.BAT CONFIG.SYS DRVSPACE.BIN IO.SYS MSDOS.SYS The Crisis Recovery Diskette contains the following 6 files: MINIDOS.SYS PHLASH.EXE PLATFORM.BIN V2GX.ROM VIRGE.ROM BIOS.ROM It should be noted that the Crisis Recovery diskette is only used for "RECOVERY MODE", and can not be used to flash the BIOS under DOS, because the file, PLATFORM.BIN, is different than the file PLATFORM.BIN used on the System Flash diskette. BIOS UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS To update or re-install the SYSTEM BIOS, perform the following steps: 1. Turn off power 2. Remove your System's Cover (refer to the System Reference manual, page 1-8) 3. Locate Switch Block 1 (refer to System Reference manual, page A-11). Switch Block 1 consists of 8 individual switches, 1 through 8 (see page A-8 & A-9) 4. Move individual switch number 5 from OFF to ON (switch down) 5. Insert the System Flash Utility diskette into the Floppy drive 6. Turn on power and go into CMOS Setup (press key F2 during startup) 7. From the MAIN screen, using the down arrow, select the "Boot Options" item and press the key. 8. From the "Boot Options" menu, select "Flash Update:" and press the bar. This will change the selection from "DISABLED" to "ENABLED". This will allow you to flash the BIOS during the next boot. If you do not flash the BIOS at the next boot, "Flash Update:" will be reset to "DISABLED". 9. Press the key twice and select "Save Changes & Exit". System will now re-boot and load the flash program from the diskette. 10. Flash program will now update the BIOS. When BIOS has been updated, turn off power, set switch 5 back to the OFF position (switch in the UP position), replace the system cover, and turn power back on. RECOVERY MODE In the event that the BIOS is corrupted or the flash program did not properly work, it may be necessary to run the Crisis Recovery program. Perform the following steps: 1. Turn off power 2. Remove your System's Cover (refer to the System Reference manual, page 1-8) 3. Locate Switch Block 1 (refer to System Reference manual, page A-11). Switch Block 1 consists of 8 individual switches, 1 through 8 (see page A-8 & A-9) 4. Move individual switch number 5 from OFF to ON (switch down) Move individual switch number 3 from OFF to ON (switch down) 5. Insert the Crisis Recovery diskette into the Floppy drive 6. Turn on power - the Recovery program will now run and restore the system BIOS. 7. When recovery is complete, power off the system, set switches 3 and 5 to the OFF position (switches in the UP position), remove the Crisis Recovery Diskette, replace the system cover, and turn power back on.
