Summary of DECbrouter90 test results from Harvard University Network Device Test Lab for Interop Fall '93 ----------------------------------------------- The DECbrouter90 was tested over 64K and T1 leased-line WAN and over 64K, T1 and E1 access rate Frame Relay. The protocols tested were IP, DECnet Phase IV, DECnet/OSI (CLNS), bridging, Appletalk, and Novell Netware IPX, in a number of different configurations. For each combination, results were obtained for a number of different frame sizes, and a number of different traffic loads. A total of 37 tests were run, representing a total test run of around 40 hours. All test results reported are those recorded by Scott Bradner for publication at Interop Fall '93 in his 'Router Tests' document. ************************************************************************* * Headline absolute maximum and throughput (no-loss) frames/sec figures * ************************************************************************* All figures are for Ethernet frames forwarded between two DECbrouter90 systems connected over a WAN link. Traffic is uni-directional over the WAN, unless otherwise stated. Estimated WAN link utilization is in brackets. Larger frame sizes normally provide higher utilization - 64 byte frames are taken to be the worst case utilization for a given configuration. Figures quoted are not guaranteed under all circumstances, and do not take into account routing messages or HDLC bit-stuffing when calculating line utilization (actual utilization is likely to be higher). 64 byte frames -------------- 64K HDLC WAN (estimated theoretical max frames/sec = 145 each direction) IP = 122 Max (84.1%) , 101 Thru (69.7%) Bridge = 96 Max (66.2%) , 75 Thru (51.7%) Bridge Tester maximum frames/sec in this configuration, even though WAN not saturated, due to tester problems. Actual achievable rate is higher than this. All vendors compared using this figure. I re-tested some configurations with higher input rates (see entries marked NOTE 2). 2. Configuration has already been retested with a higher tester input rate. This figure is higher than reported by Scott Bradner in his general test results, however he holds the data on file for these higher test results.
