23 September 1997 PROBLEM STATEMENT: Some DE305-AA/BA/CA modules have shipped to the field with incorrect SROM contents. PROBLEM SYMPTOM: There are two symptoms: 1. The PC hangs during boot. 2. The PC boots successfully but is unable to see the DE305. SOLUTION: There are 2 alternative solutions. 1. For those that have PCs that will boot with the DE305 plugged in, which tend to be older model PCs, there is a DOS executable that can be used to reprogram the SROM. The Executable can be copied from the following locations. FTP site: ftp.digital.com/pub/DEC/adapters/ethernet/de305/interim/30update.exe World Wide Web: www.networks.digital.com/dr/nics/drivers filename: 30update.exe 2. Customers should return the bad or untried modules that fall within the serial number range, shown in the "Additional Information" section below, through normal exchange channels for replacement. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The non-conforming modules fall within the serial number range 9P72002817 - 9P72010491. Note that not all modules within this range are bad. If the module has been installed successfully, no action is necessary.
