HP OpenVMS Systemsask the wizard |
The Question is: It happens sometimes that one cannot make a telnet or ftp connection to a production vax running Decnet OSI 5.8. The connection is immediately made, but one is never authenticated into the system, i.e. one is never asked for a username or password. If this happens and you do have an open session to the vax, then everything seems normal, no unusual errors in operator.log, no runaway processes, etc. What can I check, or is this a known problem? The Answer is : The OpenVMS Wizard will assume that sufficient interactive logins (SET LOGIN/INTERACTIVE, or via symbol STARTUP$INTERACTIVE_LOGINS during SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM) and license units are available, that the SYSGEN parameter RJOBLIM is set to an appropriate value, and that sufficient process quotas are available. There is insufficient information here -- the OpenVMS Wizard would recommend upgrading to the current release and the appropriate ECO kit for both DECnet-Plus (formerly DECnet/OSI) and for TCP/IP Services. The OpenVMS Wizard would also recommend an upgrade to OpenVMS VAX V6.2 or later, and the application of all mandatory OpenVMS ECO kits for the OpenVMS release in use. This could potentially be a problem with DECnet-Plus, with TCP/IP Services, or with some underlying component of OpenVMS security. If the problem persists, please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center -- you may need to provide the contents of a system crashdump after forcing a crash, when the problem next occurs.
