Thanks to all who replied. Most of the reponses I received were aids in
diagnosing the problem (i.e. use tcpdump to look at packets between the
alpha and PC). I've also placed a call to DEC's Pathworks support team.
Apparently they have had some problems in the past with some ethernet cards
and it may be that the Intel card is one of the cards having a problem.
A patch is forthcoming.
