Thanks to all for the replies.  The answer is to get mpack/munpack from 
ftp.andrew.cmu.edu:/pub/mpack or metmail from ftp.bellcore.com:/pub/nsb.  I 
grabbed mpack and it worked great.  The attachment was a Word Doc.
