Hello,
This is the first time sending to this listserve so please bear with
me if I miss something in my synopsis. We have been having some
complaints from users that say logging in is painfully slow. We have
traced these users back to having their home directories all on the same
partition; an ADVFS SEAGATE ST15150N 4 gig disk. This disk is
partitioned into 2 - 2 gig partitions (ADVFS);
                               /home/luna/users and /home/luna/users/1995

It is /home/luna/users/1995 that seems to be having the problems. I have
presently moved 3 people off of this partition and they say the difference
in logging in is much better and very noticable. The interesting thing is that
this problem is intermittent and the users on the /home/luna/users partition have
not complained at all, which to me rules out a faulty disk, would it not?

These users that are having the problems logging in, have it right from
their initial login and intermittently they get the message NFS server Luna not
responding coming across their screen and they eventually get timed out. It
is also very slow when they try to telnet to a server that has the partition
/home/luna/users/1995 NFS mounted, yet the other partition (/home/luna/users)
again is ok.
Any input or ideas as to why this is happening would be greatly
 appreciated.
