Just in case this _isn't_ hardware (too late tonight for me to find a
spare CDROM drive)...
I've got a happy new AlphaServer 2100A. Came from the factory with DU 3.2D,
but per usual, not partitioned the way I want it. I'm not having any luck
booting from CDROM (the newest one I could find, the 3.2D/E disc) -
        P00>>>boot dka500
        (boot dka500.5.0.2001.0 -flags a)
block 0 of dka500.5.0.2001.0 is a valid boot block
        reading 16 blocks from dka500.5.0.2001.0
        bootstrap code read in
        base = 200000, image_start = 0, image_bytes = 2000
        initializing HWRPB at 2000
        initializing page table at 1f2000
        initializing machine state
setting affinity to the primary CPU
        jumping to bootstrap code
        can't open osf_boot
It _is_ hitting the CDROM, and when the machine is up, I was able to mount
this and poke around on it. I've also tried booting from the firmware
upgrade CDROM, which did much the same, but ended with the exotic
%APB-F-BADSYSROOT, System root [SYSA.] does not exist, check bootflags
Of course, I hadn't expected to be able to boot from that...
Tech Support hopes it's a hardware problem with the CDROM drive. Could it
be something else?
Thanks.
