Dear Gurus,
1) First question: how to prevent my lasercolor, hooked to the parallel
   port of my alpha box, to be the "default" printer?
   Answer: this printer should NOT be called "lp" or "lp0" in 
           /etc/printcap.
           A printer called "lp" will be the default, unless you have
           defined a PRINTER environment variable.
           It is said also that the FIRST printer in /etc/printcap is
           considered as the default. This is true: before I
           installed the lasercolor as "lp", I received from time to 
           time some garbage on "my" printer which is the first one in
           printcap.
2) Second question: what about the JetDirect card?
   Answer: no problem.
   Kimble Webb suggested that I should have a look at LPRng, here is
   his answer:

you could look at lprng for an access list etc - or to print to the hp
jetdirect - it nice
