A recent summary indicated that a user account could be created without a
password by using the following steps:
            - create a normal user account giving the password
            - delete the password field from /etc/passwd file
            - resynchronise the database by using the command
               #mkpasswd /etc/passwd
I am running Enhanced Security on DUnix V4.0a and tried these steps along with
convuser, etc in various combinations. I was unable to get it to work. (You
may wonder why I'd want to do this. I need to run Skey/Opie and am reluctant
to replace login itself. This seemed like the next best way to do it.)
The closest I got was one that let me use the account, but recognized that there
was no password. When it asked for one, it refused to let me give it a null
password:
        login: opie
        Password:
Last successful login for opie: NEVER
Last unsuccessful login for opie: NEVER
        You don't have a password.
Last successful password change for opie: UNKNOWN
Last unsuccessful password change for opie: NEVER
Do you want (choose one letter only):
A string of characters generated for you (c)
A string of letters generated for you (l) ?
To pick your password (p) ?
Enter choice here (q to quit): p
        New password:
You are not allowed to have a null password.
        Illegal password, try again.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Greg
