I am having a space problem on the disk I use for my newsfeed and the system
has ground to a halt as far as processing news is concerned. I seem to be
grid locked. I have been trying to expire enough articles to reclaim
sufficient space to return to normal operation. Although the job has been
running for quite some time I don't seem to be reclaiming any disk space
(see below).
news 2067 2058 33.0 15:01:19 ttyp1 52:38.75 expire /news/lib/news/explist
I noticed that my history and history.pag files are both quite large.
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 75105425 Apr 4 20:29 history
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 151 Apr 4 11:15 history.dir
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 172146 Apr 4 21:55 history.n
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 146 Apr 4 15:01 history.n.dir
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 0 Apr 4 15:01 history.n.pag
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 19508624 Apr 4 20:29 history.pag
Can I safely delete either or both of these files to get back some of my
badly needed disk space? I know the history file contains a list of all the
articles currently on my system but can I safely delete it?
