I asked :-
Anybody know if you can have comments between continuation lines
in a printcap entry ?
Robert Evans <r.evans_at_ic.ac.uk>,Peter Stern <peter_at_wiscpa.weizmann.ac.il>,
John Stoffel <jfs_at_fluent.com> and rrens_at_hcia.com
all gave the correct answer i.e. NO
They pointed out that continuation lines are equivalent to one long line
- so the line would not be starting with a # sign.
Now they need to tell the people that write the configuration utility for
the Rapidprint200 (a printer N.I.C.) because it generates this sort of
thing :-
#
# This printcap entry is automatically generated for the N.I.C. product
# Simple input and output filters are provided for your convenience.
eroc|N.I.C. printer :\
        :lp=/dev/nic_2/eroc:\
        :if=/usr/nic_2/infilter:\
# :of=/usr/nic_2/outfilter:\
        :sd=/usr/spool/eroc:
#
Thanks also to :-
  "Jude T. Cruz" <jude_at_tsi.com.my>
for a suggestion to up and down the printer between edits to printcap -
not applicable in this case !
