APOP (qpopper)

Has anyone been able to get the apop authentication of qpopper to work
for DU? If so, would you share how you did it? The popper works fine by
itself, until a user is added using "popauth". Then I get bad password
or user name errors. Telneting into the port gives "-ERR authentication
failure".
I've changed md5.h as suggested from an earlier posting. No difference.
I'm running 3.2C and _NOT_ enhanced security.
Would you suggest I just forget APOP?
