My Question: Why do our DEC Fortran (v3.8 and earlier) compiled
executables not accept <cntrl> c to kill them?
Answer: A bug in the compiler, since fixed in v4.0. The patch
to fix this and other compiler things is found at:

ftp://ftp.service.digital.com/pub/osf/v3.0/fortran_unix/3.8
Also, it was pointed out (quite politely) that this problem and answer
was already treated several months earlier and that I could
have found it in the archives. My apologies.
