My original post:
Hi all,
Well, after checking the archives, it looks like it's time for this
question to be asked once again. (The last time was a couple of years ago!)
I know that WRQ's ReflectionX and Hummingbird's Exceed are the two most
touted X-Windows software packages -- Which one is the best one and why?
Or, is there another package out there that would knock my socks off? It's
worth mentioning that from time to time, I would want to use this over a
modem line -- (actually, rather often if my 2-day-a-week telecommuting
request is granted).
Thanks for your input -- I shall summarize for the next person looking for
this info!
Regards,

Well, I received some good answers -- and haven't summarized because I've
been trying out the freebies (always a good thing when you work for a
college! ) So far, my favorite is the VNC program recommended by Ian
Mortimer (you should give it a whirl, Ian!) -- not only is it free, it
works for Windows 95 and NT ... solving a potential problem here without
extra effort! I have yet to try it over a modem, and I still can't figure
out how to start the CDE from scratch, but for the minimal uses I need, it
really seems to fit the bill!

I tested WRQ, Exceed, Attachmate - WRQ's Reflections was the easiest and
fastest to setup. I'm only using the X nothing else. I did my eval and
just got my software today. I talk to Linux(RH and Caldera), NCR-Unix, 3.2g
and 4.0b DEC, Unixware 2.1 no problems with any of them. Great product! I
haven't tried dialup though so I can't say how well it works over a modem.

For something a bit different and free have a look at:

I haven't tried it myself but I've had good reports.

Hello Sheryl,
I use DEC's Xcursion. Don't know if it's still a product, I got rev 3.0 last
summer. Works great for me, and DEC answers the phone, Hummingbird doesn't,
which is why I chose the DEC product.

I'm using XWin32 from Starnet (www.starnet.com) - goes well, has the low
bandwidth X stuff in it ( from version 4 )
and only $20 US a copy :)
YMMV

Well..
 I don't use either. I use MI/X from Microimages.com. It's FREE. It works
for me.
it uses the twm Window manager.
