5.) Use backup and the VMS like utilities that came with OSF 3.0 from
Boston whatever to read the backup file. There is (free) VMS backup,
which does not work properly either.
1.) I could not find a working tar either.
2.) I could get NFS sort of working but got the same problems that I got
with tar.
3.) I'm not aware of this product.
4.) I was/am running UCX< too. AFAIK the UCX developers left Dec and
UCX was not really improved.

Don,
I've used multinet's nfsmount to mount unix files systems on the VMS. The
nfs software should be bundled in with the newest version of multinet.
It's been a few years ago and I was mounting it on a sun. I had to export
the file system out to the VMS hostname and used the mulitnet command on
the vms system:
$nfsmount your.unix.box::"/filesystem" VMSmountpoint
you should be able to set def VMSmountpoint:[000000]

Hi,
On the vms side, you need to set up a map, an export and a proxy.
If you have not gotten that far, let me know and I will send you some
instructions on it.
The easiest way to find out why there is an authentication problem is to
do a repl/ena on the vms system. Then go on the unix system and do your
mount -t nfs command. the authentication error should come up on your vms
system window and show you what the problem is. I had this problem and I
had to set up a proxy for a user id and group id of -2 (negative 2).
don't know why , but it worked and that was all I cared about.
Send me mail if you need more info.

Sorry, I've not been in the OpenVMS business for 1 year now. But I managed
to get UCX/NFS (3.0 I think, under 6.2) to work with DU 3.2C in both
directions.
Else you could consider using ZIP, though there may be problems with some
files (ascii vs binary, OpenVMS file attributes, SSSIGGHHH).
Hope this helps,
- Serge
