Hi everybody,
Five years ago, my boss purchased a DEC 3000 300X workstation, which came
with the DEC OSF/1 operating system. After being used for a couple of
years, the machine stopped functioning properly, and it became unable to
pass the initial power tests. The exact output on the screen was:
DEC 3000 - M300X

After consulting DEC, and also this list, the conclusion was that the best
solution would be a motherboard swap. At this point the problem was
forgotten, and it only came back up recently again.
- Do you think it is worth fixing this computer at this point?
- If yes, what kind of OS should we install? Is OSF/1 still around or
do we need to switch to the current version of Digital Unix?
- Does the merger of Compaq with Digital translate to bad news for this
  type of workstations?
- Are these motherboards still supported?
- Are software still available for these workstations?
  GNU products? Netscape? etc.
- What does this list suggest that we do?
Thanks in advance for your input.
