Hi,
I must first thank Joe Fletcher <joe_at_meng.ucl.ac.uk> and Olle Eriksson
<olle_at_cb.uu.se> for their quick replies.

In my original poster I enquired about the meaning of the following error:
Machine Check error corrected by system
          Machine check code = 0x100000086
                  Ibox Status = 0000000000000000
                  Dcache Status = 0000000000000008
          /snip,snip/
Both Joe and Olle pointed to correctable ECC memory errors. These
apparently are common if the system uses a lot of RAM. If these errors
occur on a regular basis then reseating the DRAMs or running a memory
exerciser is recommended.
Regards,
Rich
