4.0e - patchkit2 - "tar: Ready for volume 2"?

I downloaded the 4.0e patchkit 2 and when I did a tar, I got a
message after a while "Ready for volume 2". I've never installed a
patch before, so I thought maybe it was normal, and I proceeded to
the dupatch update. Now after loading 18 of 136 subsets, the
patch update process has stopped with

"tar: Ready for volume 2"
"tar: type "go" when ready to proceed or "q" to abort

I type go to proceed, but the system is no longer doing anything.

Any suggestions?
