Hi team -
I have a gracefully aging Alphastation 250 4/266 running Tru64 4.0E (well,
it says it's running Digital UNIX, but that's another matter!). This
Alphastation came with a built-in 10mbit card. I recently got my first
10/100 hub (a switched Allied Telesyn CentreCOM FH716SW), so I'm now ready
to put in a 100mbit card in my Alpha. I gather from reading the archives
that I need a SN-DE500-BA (ie a tulip 10/100mbs).
I work at an off-campus research lab where I am the only regular computer
support, and my knowledge of hardware installation in UNIX-based systems
only goes as far as adding extra hard drives from time to time. So, I have
several questions:
1) Who should I order this card from and how much should I expect it to cost?
2) What steps should I take to install this new card? Including...
3) How do I disable the old 10mbit card?
4) How do I make sure that my system recognizes & uses the new card (at
full speed) and that my existing network configurations "use" this new card?
5) And anything else I might need to know to get this done...
Thanks in advance,
Colin Brooks
