BRIEF SUMMARY OF ORIGINAL QUESTION:
We received a ESA10000 expansion cabinet and would like to install it
ourselves,
to avoid the expense of having Compaq do what appears to be a simple process.
RESPONSE SUMMARY
In general, it is fairly straight-forward to install the cabinet. Just make
sure
the PVA switch is set to the appropriate setting to modify the SCSI
addresses
in the new cabinet, otherwise there will be SCSI conflicts. Other than than,
just
run a few bridge cables from the bottom of the HSZs to connect the SCSI
drives
and run the EMU wires to permit the environmental monitoring unit to sense
the
new box. And of course, find a place to power the new box.
All in all, it should take about an hour.
One person did warn of all the potential problems that can occur when
doing such an install. Fortunately for us, we managed to work out the
problem we were having with Compaq and now it looks like they will
be taking care of it for us. However, it is very cool that I now know
pretty much exactly what they will be doing, as well as how long it
should take.
THANKS TO THOSE WHO RESPONDED (and around the holidays too!)
