Dear List,
I found my answer just after I posted the message.
The problem was that I forgot that the httpd server only listens. It
looks like that a user had connected to the server on port 80 during
httpd start up - why I don't know.
I did a netstat -a and spotted the culprit and a swift kick in the
wotsits cured the problem.

Dear Tru-ers
I am running apache web server on Tru64 4.0d and I am having a problem
starting the httpd daemons. I am getting an error message saying that
the port is in use. I understand, that by default apache uses port 80.
Can anyone enlighten me on how to find out what ports are in use and
with what.
Simon
