Hi All,
Just done a conversion from base to C2 security and things haven't gone as
planned. I'm currently locked out of everything on the system which is NIS
master. Oddly enough some of the workstation clients have valid logins.
Main system is ES40, 4CPU, Tru64 v4.0F pk3. I've managed to get into root
via booting into single user and modifying the password but once I get into
runlevel 3 and try to use any of the tools on the rest of tyhe accounts
database I run into "accounts database locked by another user."
The fault isn't an abnormal exit from dxaccounts ie it's not a remnant
/etc/.AM_is_running or /etc/ptmp file being left lying around. I'm seeing
errors about extended profiles not being created but fixing them runs into
the "accounts database locked by another user." errors.
Most accounts are NIS only ie they don't have entries in /etc/passwd.
Currently I'm considering copying the /var/yp/src/passwd file to
/etc/passwd and trying to rebuild the C2 databases from there.
One other thing: I can log in to the console as root after hacking the
password but if I leave the sytem long enough for the screen to lock I
can't unlock it again. Any explanations?
Cheers
Joe
