Cron aborted: Cannot stat fifo queue

I am seeing the following message on our console:
Cron aborted: Cannot stat fifo queue
I see that there have been some posts on this topic but I haven't seen any
summaries. Does anyone know what causes this message to appear and how to
get it to stop? It seems to print out with a frequency of about once an
hour.
