[Q] 4.0F -> 5.1 or 5.1a.

I've been asked to upgrade an XP1000 from 4.0F to 5.1. I know this
question's been asked before but it might be time for an update.
What's the recommended upgrade path:

   4.0F -> 4.0G -> 5.1
   4.0F -> 5.0a -> 5.1
   fresh install of 5.1

Would it be better to go to 5.1a instead (presumably 5.1a has some
bug fixes that 5.1 doesn't). In that case which would you recommend:

   4.0F -> 5.0a -> 5.1a
   fresh install of 5.1a
 
Also any traps to watch out for in any of those upgrades?

(The box has a single 18GB disk divided into 6 partitions: one swap
and 5 separate advfs domains. I wouldn't have partitioned it that
way but that's what I'm stuck with).
