Too many levels of symbolic links

Admins,

 

I have been trying to reorganise some disk space while permitting continued
application access using symbolic links.

I have copied a file or three to a new location, removed the old (original
file) and then tried to place a sym link back to the original source using

 

ln -s <filename> /db/assldb1/dfs/<filename>

 

AND

 

ln -s * /db/assldb1/dfs/

 

When I try to access these files, I get "Too many levels of symbolic links"

Any ideas?
