Over the weekend I installed a new server to replace our old DS20
Alphaserver. I moved the old one out of the way to put in the new one. The
old DS20 is going to our WDM office as a training/disaster recovery
machine. Anyway, the old DS20 has an external disk drive cabinet. I labeled
the external drive cables to be sure I got them reconnected correctly. I
moved the old server to another location in the computer room for
reconfiguration later. I plugged all the cables back in but the system
won't boot.
First, it take 15 to 20 minutes, after I power it on to get the blue screen
where it tests the system and memory. When the system tries to boot it gets
to the point where it says:
starting xcr0; please wait
After a few seconds 3 error messages appears on the screen, but they then
scroll by so fast I can't read them. All that appears after them are blank
lines. I tried to do a ctrl-s to stop the scrolling but that didn't work.
At the boot prompt, >>>, I can do a sh devices and I see all of the disks.
I can do a test at the boot prompt and I can see the disks being accessed.
I wish I could read those error messages so I could pass them on.
Does anyone have any ideas where I can go from here?
