Is there a way of updating the hardware database ?

When I have presented a disk to the system I didn't assign an IDENT number
to the device.

Therefore under "hwmgr -v d " I get ...........


root_at_avon:/home/bboddy >hwmgr -v d
 HWID: Device Name Mfg Model Location

I now want to assign an IDENT number for this device, so that it would look
something like .............

The only way I can thing of to do this would be to delete the HWID with
dsfmgr and recreate it again. However to do this I would have to unmount any
file systems attached which I can't do.
Is there anyway I can do this dynamically ?
