Hello Managers,
We are currently in the preliminary purchase phase of a new cluster ( ES45
with SAN). As part of the configuration, the HP rep has quoted a Super DLT
tape system, MSL5026SL. This would be connected via the fiber and an MDR.
Due to application support, we will most likely be running T64 v5.1A.
My backup application of choice has always been vdump. In our version 1.6
ASE, I've used MRU 1.3 to manipulate the tapes into and out of their
respective slots. I've written scripts within my backup routines to do
this. This has worked well.
Since MRU seems to be an older package, I am curious if it can support the
new tape drives and robots on version 5.1a and if it can be used over fiber.
If not, do I have other options. I would prefer not having to use Legato or
Veritas for backups. "Expect" could be used for spanning vdump across
multiple tapes, but that is not what I want to do. I want to be able to
pull a tape from a specific slot, return it, pull a different tape, etc.
all within a script.
Would MRU support this tape drive and robot over SCSI rather than fiber?
Thanks.
John
