        I found myself the solution:

        it is necessary to force a setenv DISPLAY also locally

        I have an Xp1000 with TRU64 v4.0f that i patched with patch
        kit 7 (BL18) to use the KZPCA scsi card.

        Now the card and the attached device were usable but
        i experienced problems with acroread, it exits with
        error code 0x400e0009.

        does anyone experienced such a trouble ?
