Hi, managers!
We recently tried to remove some harddiscs from our AdvFS file domain using
rmvol. We tried it several times without success. At first it moves files
and some metadata, then it moves the metadata of many files but at the end,
it moves only the metadata of a few files over and over.
At the end, the log goes as follows:
[...]

We tried to remove /dev/disk/dsk4a. You may notice that the domain consists
of partitions of only one physical volume. This was for testing purposes but
we encountered the described problem in the same way when doing rmvol on
domains consisting of several drives.
We did an extensive web search hoping someone else had encountered (and
solved) this problem before but couldn't find anything useful.
Finally, you may be interested in our configuration. We did the rmvol on a
digital Personal Workstation 500au with Tru64 Unix V 5.1B and uname -a says
OSF1 XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX V5.1 2650 alpha
The machine has 640 MB Ram and a qlogic SCSI controller. The harddiscs are
connected through external UltraWide SCSI and are arranged in a StorageWorks
block.
If you have a tip for us, we would be glad to hear from you.
With best regards,
Sven Hoeckel, Clemens Waechter, Heiko Schroeder.
