These are some quick notes on different versions of WRQ/Attachemate/Microfocus/OpenText/Rocket Reflection. Versions targeting DEC/UNIX environments (where there is a distinction) are the primary focus.

Reflection seems to be one of the better (the best?) of the commercial terminal emulators. Reflection 2 v5.1 from 1995 easily outperforms the latest (as of 2026) versions of ZOC, SecureCRT and PowerTerm (discontinued March 2025) in VT420 emulation. Unfortunately its squarely targeted at the enterprise market and individual licences don't seem to be obtainable outside the second-hand market.

As the current maintainer of Kermit 95 one of my goals is accurate emulation of DECs terminals making Reflection a useful reference, particularly where the real terminals to test against are not available.

The number after the product name (values of n for Reflection n) on older releases seems to have indicated the target market:

Versions

As far as DEC terminal emulations go, version 12.0 which added VT525 emulation seems to be the final interesting version. Later releases mostly seem concerned with enterprise features, adopting new Windows features (ribbon), and security updates. Version 13.0 seems to have been the last release to add any new terminal emulations, and possibly most terminal emulation enhancements since then have gone into the xterm emulation.
