					Version 2.0b
					5/29/98

This document describes how to install, enable and use PowerStorm 4D10T's VideoIN. With the introduction of PowerStorm 4D10T V2.0 drivers, VideoIN functionality is included in the kit. It is important that you read this document prior to using the VideoIN on the PowerStorm 4D10T.

Note: This VideoIN driver will work only with V2.0b of the Display Driver. It WILL NOT work with V2.0 or V2.0a of the Display Driver.

1.0 What is VideoIN

The PowerStorm 4D10T 8 MB device has the ability to accept video signals using a standard video input connector (yellow color connector on the board). The video source can be a VCR or Video Camera. The video signal is converted by the PowerStorm 4D10T device into a format that can be displayed by standard multimedia viewers. This functionality is particularly interesting in non-professional net conferencing using Microsoft's NetMeeting V2.0.

2.0 Configurations Supported

The PowerStorm 4D10T driver kit contains the Display driver and the VideoIN driver. The Display driver enables the basic graphics capability of the PowerStorm 4D10T device. It is a requirement that you install the Display driver prior to installing the VideoIN driver. The VideoIN driver enables the VideoIN capability of the PowerStorm 4D10T device.

The driver kit contains VideoIN drivers for Digital's Alpha and Intel platforms.

Alpha Platforms: Digital Personal Workstation (DPW) series 500a, 500au, 533au, 600au

Intel Platforms: Digital Personal Workstation (DPW) series 300i, 300i+, 333i

VideoIN driver should not be installed or used in a Multihead configuration.

Minimum Operating System Windows NT 4.0 SP3

3.0 Contents of the VideoIN driver

The VideoIN driver is contained in the PowerStorm 4D10T driver kit. The following files constitute the VideoIN driver:

Alpha

4.0 Installing the VideoIN driver

This section assumes that the system contains one PowerStorm 4D10T 8 MB device with at least V2.0 of the display driver already installed. If this is not the case, please install the display driver first.

- Log into an account with administrative privilege.
- From the Control Panel, select Multimedia. A window titled "Multimedia Properties" will appear on the screen.
- Click on the Devices tab. This will list different multimedia devices like Audio Devices, Video Capture Devices etc.
- Click on Add. A window titled "ADD" will appear on the screen.
- Select "Unlisted or Updated Driver".
- Provide the path where the VideoIN driver is located and select OK to continue. A window titled "Add Unlisted or Updated Driver" will appear on the screen. It will have "PoweStorm 4D10T VideoIN" selection highlighted. Select it and continue.
- If there are no previous installations of the VideoIN driver, the driver will be installed on your system and a window will appear providing the version of the driver installed. Select OK to continue.
- If there is a previous installation of the VideoIN driver, a window appears requesting you to select to either the "Current" driver or install the "New" driver. Select "New" and continue. The new VideoIN driver will be installed on your system and a window will appear providing the version of the driver installed. Select OK to continue.
- After the above steps, you will be at the Multimedia Properties window. On expanding Video Capture Devices, you should see "PowerStorm 4D10T VideoIN". Double-clicking on this will take you to VideoIN Settings for PowerStorm 4D10T. This is discussed in the next section.
- Select OK to exit the Multimedia properties window.

The VideoIN driver is now installed on your system on successful completion of the above steps. You can test it by:

- Connecting a Video Camera into the standard Video In connector
- Bringing up either Microsoft's NetMeeting V2.0 or VidCap32.exe (which is contained in the Windows NT 40 SDK).

5.0 PowerStorm 4D10T VideoIN Settings

The PowerStorm 4D10T VideoIN driver provides the ability to customize the VideoIN display using the Settings applet which can be accessed from the Multimedia properties window. This applet can also be accessed by any standard Multimedia application like Microsoft's NetMeeting V2.0.

To customize your VideoIN settings:

- From the Control Panel, select Multimedia. A window titled "Multimedia Properties" will appear on the screen.
- Click on the Devices tab. This will list different multimedia devices like Audio Devices, Video Capture Devices etc.
- Expand the Video Capture Devices. You should see "PowerStorm 4D10T VideoIN" under the Video Capture Devices. Double Click on "PowerStorm 4D10T VideoIN". A window will appear which will contain a Settings selection. Select settings. A window titled "PowerStorm 4D10T VideoIn Settings" will appear on the screen. You can customize the Format or Source settings with this applet. Once you customize it, the settings are saved and will be reused until modified again.

6.0 Known Restrictions

The following are the known restrictions with the VideoIN driver:

- VideoIN functionality is not supported in Multihead configurations (systems with multiple PowerStorm 4D10T devices).
- The save video frames feature in Vidcap32.exe (SDK sample) does not work with the VideoIN driver.
- Graphics display corruption may be observed while running Microsoft's NetMeeting V2.0. This is due to contention of the framebuffer between Graphics and VideoIN drivers. This will in no way limit the performance or functionality of the Graphics or VideoIN.

7.0 Technology Demos

The use of VideoIN described in the above sections relates to a single PowerStorm 4D10T device used for Graphics and VideoIN on either an Alpha or Intel platform. The VideoIN driver also has BETA support for a configuration wherein the PowerStorm 4D10T can be used as a VideoIN device ONLY working in conjunction with any other Graphics adapter (except another PowerStorm 4D10T) like Matrox Millennium II, or other PowerStorm products. This section details how to activate this configuration. The example illustrates how to enable VideoIN on PowerStorm 4D10T in conjunction with Matrox Millennium II.

This section assumes that you have a working system with Matrox Millennium II display adapter along with an appropriate display driver installed. If this is not the case, please setup the system first before proceeding to install the PowerStorm VideoIN driver.

- Shut the system down and turn off the power.
- Plug in a PowerStorm 4D10T into another PCI slot alongside the Matrox Millennium II display adapter. NOTE: Disable the VGA on the PowerStorm 4D10T by setting the jumper in 2-3 position. This is extremely important, if you do not disable the VGA, the system will not boot properly.
- Boot the system and follow the instructions for installing a VideoIN driver as described in Section 4.0.

Once the VideoIN driver is installed on your system, you can test it by:

- Connecting a Video Camera into the standard Video In connector
- Bringing up either Microsoft's NetMeeting V2.0 or VidCap32.exe (which is contained in the Windows NT 40 SDK).

In this case, the PowerStorm 4D10T will act as a VideoIN only device, while the Matrox Millennium II will be the Display Device.

You can not use a PowerStorm 4D10T as a display device and another PowerStorm 4D10T as a VideoIN only device. This will constitute a Multihead configuration and VideoIN is not supported in this case.
