File AD90102A.EXE is the new (09/13/96) release of the Digital Starion TeleCommander sound drivers. This update fixes a number of sound related problems. It also enables the "Simultaneous Record and Playback" function. ********IMPORTANT********* Please follow the detailed installation instructions contained in the README.TXT file once the diskette is created. ********IMPORTANT********* The installation of the updated TeleCommander sound drivers will replace the existing sound drivers and install new, Windows 95 32-bit drivers. The installation assumes that your hardware configuration is identical to the "as shipped" configuration. If you have any new hardware devices, the settings for the sound card may differ from normal (for example some network cards use some of the same resource settings as the sound card). If this is the case, you may have to manually set the resources for the sound card from the Device Manager. After the new drivers are completed installed, from the Device Manager, click on the +(plus) next to the Diamond TeleCommander. This will display three entries: Diamond FM/OPL3 Device Diamond MPU401 Device Diamond TeleCommander 2300/3300 Select the Diamond TeleCommander 2300/3300 and click on the Properties button at the bottom of the screen. Next, click on Resources and you should find the following settings (if not the same, you can manually set them). The settings for the sound card after installation should be: Input/Output Range 0201 - 0201 (this is the I/O address for the Joystick) Input/Output Range 0220 - 022F (this is the I/O address of the sound card) Input/Output Range 0530 - 0537 (this is the I/O address for Windows Sound System) Input/Output Range 0388 - 038B Input/Output Range 0F8E - 0F8F Input/Output Range 0300 - 0301 (this is the I/O address for the MPU-401) Interrupt Request 05 (this is for the basic sound system) Interrupt Request 09 (this is normally used for the MPU-401) Direct Memory Access 01 (two DMAs are necessary for simultaneous Direct Memory Access 00 playback and record) Typical settings for SoundBlaster compatibility are: I/O Address = 220 IRQ = 5 (sometimes 7) DMA = 1 Setting up the Volume Control When you first start Windows 95 with the new drivers installed, you will need to setup the Volume controls. Go to START | PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES | MULTIMEDIA | VOLUME CONTROL. Once in the Volume Control, click on OPTIONS and select PROPERTIES. This will bring up a menu that allows you to select either PLAYBACK, RECORD or OTHER. Select PLAYBACK and check the boxes in the small window (Master Volume, Line, Wave, etc.) Checking these boxes will display the volume control for that device on the main volume control panel. Remember to check the MUTE button on the MICROPHONE control, by default the microphone is installed in the ON condition and may cause unwanted feedback. DOWNLOAD AND INSTALLATION This is a self-extracting file which will automatically create a diskette. Most files in the Digital software library are of the self-extracting variety. This simply means that a number of files have been compressed into a special archive file which will restore the original files and/or directories once you have downloaded the file. These files have a .EXE file extension. 1. Save the file to your hard disk in a temporary directory. C:\temp is usually available for such purposes. 2. Execute the file you just downloaded. To execute the file, you type the file name at the DOS prompt or double-click on the file in the Windows Explorer. Follow the on-screen directions for creating an update diskette.
