        Introduction

        1.1   Document Contents

        This document forms the release notes for:

        o DEC/EDI V5.0 for OpenVMS Alpha systems:
	  This product contains both application client and server components 
	  for the OpenVMS Alpha systems.

        All information in this document applies equally to all of the
        above products unless specifically stated otherwise.

        1.2   New Users

        If you are a new user of DEC/EDI, you should follow the
        installation instructions for the product contained in
        DEC/EDI: Installation Manual. You are also recommended to read
        DEC/EDI: Introduction, which gives an overview of DEC/EDI,
        describing the main components of the system and explaining
        how the system processes business data.

        1.3   Existing Users

        If you are an existing user of DEC/EDI, you should follow the
        installation instructions for the product contained in
        DEC/EDI:Installation Manual.

        After migrating to DEC/EDI V5.0, if you need to use the existing maps,
        kindly ensure that all existing maps are re-compiled and copied to the
        DEC/EDI server's map directory (i.e DECEDI$MAPS).
        
        DEC/EDI V5.0 supports upgrading from DEC/EDI V4.2. 
        Customers using earlier DEC/EDI Versions are to first upgrade to 
        to V4.2 and subsequently to V5.0

        1.4   New Feature of DEC/EDI V5.0
            
          1.4.1 OFTP/IP gateway support 
                This release introduces the OFTP/IP gateway.The gateway 
                will use the TCP/IP protocol to send and recieve EDI
                documents between trading partners.

                NOTE:
                The OFTP/IP and OFTP/X.25 cannot co-exist. 
                To use the OFTP/IP gateway the user has to define DECEDI$OFTPIP
                logical. For additional information regarding the OFTP/IP configuration 
                and usage kindly refer to the documentation.

        1.5   Bugs Resolved
 
              DEC/EDI V5.0 kit contains fixes for the following problems.
              The following list contains the IPMT numbers and their problem
              description.

              1.5.1   QXCM1000214314      DEC/EDI has fetched a single document 
					  twice.
    
              1.5.2   QXCM1000236490      According to X12 standards, the GS08 
                                          should be able to contain 12 characters.  
                                          Customer has TP that requires all 12 
                                          characters.  Customer created custom 
                                          standard (by copying X12 004010 to X12 
                                          004010RFIM).  When posting a file, only 10 
                                          characters are placed in the GS08, even with 
                                          an envelope containg all 12 characters in 
                                          the Group Standard.

        1.6   Known Problems:-

     
	1.6.1 	Problem creating transmission file:-

		%DECEDI-I-JOBSUB, job submitted to gateway
		-DECEDI-I-INFO, Gateway Type = 3780
		-DECEDI-I-INFO, Job Id = TJOB1
		-DECEDI-I-INFO, Connection Id = TEST01
		-DECEDI-W-FAILTRANSCREATE, failed transmission file create 
		 DECEDI$STORE_14:20041207102305AY0X24_TEST01
		-RMS-E-CRE, ACP file create failed
		-DECEDI-I-CONDLOGGED, condition logged by DECEDI$CC_1 on node 
		 ABACUS:

        	The reason for this error might be due to either lack of 
		disk-space or due to disk-fragmentation. If the problem is due 
		to disk-fragmentation it can be overcome by the following 
		methods.

     	 		. Use a new initialized disk for the store 
			  directories and the impexp directories.
             		. Use an appropriate tool to de-fragment the disk.

		Similar kind of error can also occur for other components 
		of DEC/EDI.
