Dear OpenVMS Customer,

Congratulations on acquiring the HP OpenView Smart Plug-In (DB-SPI) for Rdb
on OpenVMS. This product integrates new Rdb database monitoring capabilities
into the highly successful OpenView product family. From a single console it
can increase Rdb availability and performance and, at the same time, lower the
cost of managing single or distributed databases. The OpenVMS group hopes that
you will have many rewarding years with this product.

The DB-SPI for Rdb is not installed directly on an OpenVMS system. Instead,
the product is installed on the OpenView Management Server -- either HP-UX or
Windows -- and delivered to the managed OpenVMS node using the traditional
OpenView distribution methods.

To retrieve the software from the OpenVMS Quarterly distribution media and
ready it for installation on the OpenView Management Server, follow these
steps:

    1) Mount the DVD/CD-ROM by entering the MOUNT command in the following
        format:

        $ MOUNT/SYSTEM device volumelabel

        Where:

device is the name of the media device

volumelabel is the 12-character volume label located on the
            face of the disc.

Some of the steps differ depending on whether your Management Server is
running on a UNIX or a Windows system. Please follow the directions in
the relevant section.

Transfer Steps for a UNIX Management Server (OVOU)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    2) Transfer the file DBSPI_HPUX_08_20_00.GZ from the CD to your UNIX
Management Server using the mechanism appropriate for the target
platform and your environment. The file is found on the CD in
	the directory [OVORDBSPI.KIT].

If you are using FTP to transfer the files between systems, you must
use a binary mode transfer; for example:

        # cd /kits # change to a temporary directory
        # ftp vms.zko.hp.com # connect to your OpenVMS system
        Connected to vms.zko.hp.com.
        220 vms.zko.hp.com FTP Server (Version 5.5) Ready.

        250-CWD command successful.
250 New default directory is VMS$DQA0:[OVORDBSPI.KIT]
ftp> ls # list the files in the directory

ftp> bye # exit from ftp
        221 Goodbye.

    3) Unzip the files on the Management Server using the
        gunzip command:
	    # gunzip DBSPI_HPUX_08_20_00.GZ

        This results in the file:
