Installation requirements

Software requirements

For OpenVMS on Integrity servers:

  • OpenVMS on Integrity servers v8.2 and later

For OpenVMS on AlphaServer systems:
  • OpenVMS on AlphaServer systems v7.3-2 and later
  • Optionally, for pure TCP/IP deployments:

  • HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.5 or later

  • (Note: This is a pre-requisite if HP Administrator v2.2 is deployed.)

Optionally, for deployments utilizing OSI Transport:

  • DECnet-Plus for OpenVMS on Integrity servers v8.2 or later
  • DECnet-Plus for OpenVMS on AlphaServer systems v7.3-2 or later
  • OSI Applications Kernel (OSAK)
  • SSL v1.0 or later is required for LDAPv3 over SSL (available with OpenVMS v7.3-1 or later)

For Tru64 UNIX systems:

  • Tru64 UNIX v5.1a or later

  • (Note: TCP/IP Services supplied with Tru64 UNIX is a pre-requisite if HP Administrator v2.2 is deployed.)

Optionally, for deployments utilizing OSI Transport:

  • DECnet-Plus v5.1b for Tru64 UNIX or later
  • OSI Applications Kernel (OSAK)

  • (Note: If it is intended to utilize RFC1006, a TCP/IP network must also be deployed.)
  • For LDAPv3 over SSL, HP SSL v1.1 for OpenVMS or later

Hardware requirements

Processors

For OpenVMS: HP Enterprise Directory v5.4 is supported on all HP Integrity servers and AlphaServer systems that can support the memory and disk requirements.

For HP Tru64 UNIX: HP Enterprise Directory v5.4 is supported on all valid HP Tru64 UNIX AlphaServer system configurations. Refer to the configuration charts listed in the HP Tru64 UNIX Enterprise Directory v5.4 and HP Administrator for Enterprise Directory v2.2 SPD for further information on supported hardware configurations.

Disk space requirements

The counts below refer to the disk space required on the system disk or specified file systems. The sizes are approximate; actual sizes may vary depending on the user's system environment, configuration, and software options selected. The counts below refer to the space required to install the X.500 Server, Administration, and Application Programming components.

The Base component is a mandatory component for all installations. Permanent disk space requirements for the components are cumulative. Directory data files are not included and will require additional space which can be on a non-system disk.

Disk space required for installation on OpenVMS on Integrity servers:

Component Blocks KB
All 57100 29750

Disk space required for use (permanent):

Component Blocks KB
Base 17500 8960
Server 25600 13110
Administration 7000 3584
Application Programming 1000 512
Look-up client 7000 3584

OpenVMS on AlphaServer systems require 30 percent less space for the Base and Server components. If HP Administrator is installed, it will require an additional 70,000 blocks. HP Administrator Utility will require an additional 60,000 blocks.

Disk space required for installation on Tru64 UNIX systems and for use (permanent):

Component Blocks KB
Base 8000 4096
Server 18000 9216
Administration 7000 3584
Application Programming 1000 512
Look-up client 5000 2560
Reference pages 300
Release notes 300

Directory data files are stored in the /var file system.

If HP Administrator is installed, it will require an additional 70,000 blocks. HP Administrator Utility will require an additional 60,000 blocks.

There is no version of HP Enterprise Directory that runs on OpenVMS on VAX systems. To run HP X.500 Directory Service on OpenVMS on VAX systems, you must use v3.1.

Memory requirements

The performance of this product is dependent on the amount of system memory. The memory size suggested for most typical hardware configurations is at least 512 MB for systems running the Directory Server. On these server systems, memory usage increases in proportion to the amount of data stored in the database.
