What is the HP Availability Manager?
Product description The HP Availability Manager is a system management tool that, from an OpenVMS Alpha or a Windows node, enables you to monitor one or more OpenVMS Alpha or Integrity server nodes. This tool helps system managers and analysts target a specific node or process for detailed analysis.

The Availability Manager collects system and process data from OpenVMS nodes using the Availability Manager Data Collector. It displays the data from multiple nodes simultaneously using a graphical user interface (GUI) front-end, the Availability Manager Data Analyzer.

The Availability Manager Data Analyzer can collect data directly from the Data Collectors if both of them reside on the same extended local area network (LAN). For situations where the Data Analyzer does not reside on the same LAN, the Data Analyzer can connect to the Availability Manager Data Server using the IP protocol. The Data Server, residing on the same LAN as the Data Collectors, transports the data from the Data Collectors to the Data Analyzer using a secure socket data connection.

The Availability Manager tool evolved from the OpenVMS-only DECamds product and its Motif GUI. Because the Availability Manager Data Analyzer is a Java application, it runs on both Windows and OpenVMS 64-bit platforms.

Hardware and software requirements: The table in this section lists the hardware and software requirements for the Data Analyzer and Data Collector on OpenVMS and Windows nodes.

Notes:

  • Differing versions of the Data Analyzer and Data Collector will display and collect only data that is common to the capabilities of both components.
  • As a prerequisite to installing Availability Manager software, you must install the latest PCSI patch kit. This is explained further in the Availability Manager installation instructions.
