The following sections describe the scope of the OpenVMS Year 2000 Initiative.
OpenVMS Versions
To ensure that all components and features of our products are Year-2000 ready, we
have conducted a full investigation on the latest release of our software products. We also
reviewed some earlier versions to aid customers who still rely on older versions of OpenVMS
products.
Our approach was as follows:
- Conducted a full investigation on OpenVMS Version 7.1 because this release is the most comprehensive.
- Backported modifications and enhancements for the Year 2000 to OpenVMS Versions 6.2 and 5.5-2.
- Conducted tests and simulations on configurations of key components on these older versions of software.
- Identified differences in code between Version 7.1 and Versions 6.2 and 5.5-2, and investigated them.
The versions that are supported with Year 2000 kits are Versions 5.5-2, 5.5-2H4, 6.2,
6.2-1H3, and 7.1. However, the Version 6.2-1H3 kit can be installed on previous versions of
Version 6.2 because Version 6.2-1H3 includes them all.
Products
The OpenVMS Year 2000 Initiative addresses not only the OpenVMS operating
system, but also several families of layered products. The status of these products
is also documented with the results of our investigation.
