Multi-head problems under DECwindows?

» close window

The Question is:

Using OpenVMS 7.1-1H1 on an Alphastation with 2 screens and with the old
DECwindows desktop, I found the following problem after having set
DECW$MULTI_HEAD == 1 in DECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.COM:

Screen 1 is black after boot. Pressing Ctrl+F2 shows, that the system is
displaying Username: and a timeout, as if somebody has tried to login on the
console. After pressing Ctrl+F2 again, the normal DECwindows login appears.

With OpenVMS 7.1 and older versions, the same construction gave no problems.

The Answer is :

  The Wizard would recommend installing the appropriate (current) DECwindows
  Motif V1.2-3 or DECwindows Motif V1.2-4 ECO kit.

  There is normally no need to alter the settings for multi-head operations
  when running the DECwindows Motif V1.2-3 version, nor under V1.2-4 with
  the non-CDE (Motif) interface.

  Here is the total difference between DECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.TEMPLATE
  and DECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.COM on one local Multi-head AlphaStation:

    $  DECW$SERVER_TRANSPORTS == "DECNET,LOCAL,TCPIP,LAT"

  If the problem(s) persist, please contact the customer support center
  directly for assistance.
