FTP over serial line (PPP)?

» close window

The Question is:

I have a modem connected to the AXP 1000,
OVMS v7.1. on the serial port.
Can I use FTP to transfer files across or I
need to use KERMIT? Where do I get KERMIT
 from?

Thanks.

The Answer is :

FTP can be used over a serial line connection when a PPP-capable version
of TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS (UCX) or equivalent third-party IP package
is installed and configured. Information on PPP is included in OpenVMS
V7.1 and later, in the directories:

    SYS$COMMON:[SYSHLP.EXAMPLES.PPPD...]

For information on Kermit, please see the OpenVMS Frequently Asked
  Questions (FAQ).
