Calculating BTUs from wattage? (HVAC)

» close window

The Question is:

Hi,
Perhaps an unusual question, then maybe you see it all the time...
I've had a request to provide information on the heat output in BTU of
some of our DEC equipment for the planning of air con. requirements.
Where do I find this information ? I looked in the S & O catalogue,
but didn't find it.
Specific items I need info for are:
vax 4000-200
vax 4000-500
vax 4000-705A
axp 2100 4/275
sw 500
sw 800
tz887 rack mount
tz 86 desk top
tf 86 desk top
rz 28 bbu
rz 29 bbu
rz 40 bbu

The Answer is :

The wattage requirements for the system or unit can generally be
converted directly into BTU requirements, as all input power is
  eventually converted into heat.

Wattage requirements are generally listed directly on the system.

To calculate BTUs, multiply the wattage by 3.413.

If you require listings of specific systems, please contact the
customer support center directly -- discussions of thermodynamics,
as well as listings of system and component BTU ratings, are rather
far afield from the usual haunts of the OpenVMS Wizard.
