SNA networking?

» close window

The Question is:

My client has an application running on the VAX that uses DEC SNA gateway to
send send and receive LU62 messages to and from an IBM host. They do not
have an IBM host and wish to use a Windows NT software package to act like
one. They selected Attachmat
e's Extra Personal Client and an SDLC adapter. Attachmate also expects to
connect to an IBM host but said they could still communicate if the DEC SNA
gateway can be configured as a Control Point. Can the DEC SNA gateway be
configured this way?

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

The Answer is :

The Wizard would strongly recommend moving to an IP-, COM-, or RPC-
based network solution -- the SNA link does not appear to contribute
anything to the local network. The Wizard will assume that you are
limited by the communications capabilities and requirements of one or
  more local applications.

Please contact the customer support center for assistance with the
SNA product and for alternatives -- you will likely need to identify
which SNA package and which version is installed. (The standard SNA
gateway cannot be configured as an SSCP.)

As LU6.2 is expected to be peer-to-peer, you will want to investigate
if you even need an SSCP. (Various SSCP devices are available, the
folks at the customer support center may be able to provide you with
  suggestions in this area.)
