HP OpenVMS Systemsask the wizard |
The Question is:
Dear Wizard
Could you help me to connect DECNIS event dispatcher outbound stream
to event dispatcher sink on ALPHA OVMS 6.2 running X25CLIENT v1.1?
"DEC Network Intergation Server, Management" book gives extremely
short instructions to configure sink on sink node in Appendix C.
And these instructions seem to be given not for "X25CLIENT" client system,
because proposed parameters are irrelevant to X25CLIENT.
Documentation on X25CLIENT gives nothing about it.
Outbound stream counters on DECNIS indicate it is trying to connect to
sink node. Command "connect event dispatcher outbound stream <stream-id>"
gives an error:
Node DECNIS Event Dispatcher Outbound Stream <stream-id>
AT 1998-11-19-17:12:42.010+00:00I-----
FAILED IN DIRECTIVE: Connect
DUE TO: Error specific to this entity's class
REASON: Connection failed
Description: Connection Failed
Reason = Unrecognized application
Data = '050000010000'H
Is there any other way to see events generated by DECNIS
if such a connection is impossible for given products?
And other related question: I make X25 call from VMS system to
itself (testing). Does DECNIS immediately switch outgoing call back
without referring PSDN or trasfer it to PSDN? Now I am searching reason
of clearing call and can't find where it is cleared.
Tracing GAP via TRACE/PSI shows that call reaches DECNIS, but what
happens after that? Call is cleared with reason = 13(hex) and diagnostic
code = 43(hex). Why? Where does it happen?
My system: Alpha Server 2100 4/200, OVMS 6.2, X25 Client v1.1,
DECnet Phase IV, DECNIS 500.
Thank you. Valentin Likoum.

The Answer is : The system needs to be running DECnet-Plus (DECnet Phase V, DECnet/OSI) in order to receive events from the DECnis. The Wizard does not believe there really is anything to do to configure a node to receive events from other node, because I think that by default they will happily receive and process events just as if someone has pointed a DECnis to send them.
