Future plans for POSIX interface?

» close window

The Question is:

Reading the comp.os.vms newsgroup, I have seen references to the fact that
the POSIX kit is not going to be available from VMS ver 7.2 and beyond.
Does that mean that the functionality will be removed, or simply that it
will be rolled directly into the O
S so that it no longer will be a layered product, or something else?

Thanks,
Chris Lahey

The Answer is :

The POSIX kit will not be available in V7.2 and later releases. This
means that the POSIX shell will not be available, for instance.

Specific POSIX and POSIX-like tools are available from various sources,
and the POSIX calling interface is being integrated into the OpenVMS C
  run-time library.
