Third-party SCSI compatibility with OpenVMS?

» close window

The Question is:

Is there a crib sheet that will tell me what third party SCSI drives have
been found to work on the VAXstation 4000 VLC and 4000/60 systems?

We have found that we either get parity errors, or subsequent to init and
mount get timing errors with a Seagate 2GB and a Maxtor 2Gb.

The Answer is :

OpenVMS Engineering does not maintain such a "crib sheet" for
  third-party SCSI devices.

Please see previous discussions around the level of effort
required for integration and testing to ensure that a SCSI
device will operate as expected on OpenVMS.

The level of effort required for testing and integration is
non-trivial -- SCSI is a collection of optionally implemented
features, and not a standard. There are enough areas where
interpretations of the standard can differ that it is quite
possible to build an entirely standards-compliant configuration
  that won't work.
