TCP/IP (UCX) telnet print symbiont retries?

» close window

The Question is:

We have a print queue to an IBM 4227 form printer connected to an external
print server. We've tried both HP jetdirect and Lantronix eps1) printing to
port 3002 (lantronix) or 9100 (hp). Printing works perfectly if one job is
sent at a time. HOWEVER if j
obs are allowed to line up in the queue the print queue will finish printing
the first job and then stall for 2-3 minutes before printing the next job.
After monitoring the print device and finding it ready and waiting for input
from the server, it is my
considered opinion that VMS is attempting to open a second telnet session to
print before the first session has closed, failing and then waiting the
timeout period before attempting again. Is there any way to set a short
(few seconds)delay between print
jobs in the queue?

Failing this, what is the correct way to change the telnet print timeout to
retry sooner than 2-3 minutes?

Thanks,
Blaine

The Answer is :

Please determine which TCP/IP package is installed, as well as checking
for the current version and the application of the current ECO (if any).

There is a potentially similar problem that was resolved by an available
TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS (UCX) ECO kit.

Also please see the setting of the following logical name:

    $ define/system ucx$telnetsym_retry_interval "0 00:00:30.00"

If the application of a recent UCX kit and recent UCX ECO kit, as well
as (alternatively) the above logical name do not resolve this, please
  contact the customer support center.
