OpenVMS Cluster with multi-host SCSI?

» close window

The Question is:

Now I want to create cluster with DEC 3000/300 and AlphaStation
200/266,running v6.2.
I don't know if the on board scsi can be used ,or I should add another
adaptor like KZPSA.
The os version now is v6.2. How can I update to 6.2-h3? And what's different
between v6.2,v6.2-h1,v6.2h3?

The Answer is :

Extensive information on configuring Multi-host SCSI is available in the
OpenVMS documentation set. Please see this documentation -- there is
far more to correctly configuring one of these clusters than can be
reasonably included here in Ask The Wizard. You will also want to see
the discussion of correctly setting VOTES and EXPECTED_VOTES in the
  OpenVMS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

The KZTSA or similar is required for the DEC 3000 system when multi-host
SCSI is required -- the PMAZ controllers are not supported for multi-host
SCSI. (For specific hardware support, please see the OpenVMS and OpenVMS
Cluster Software Product Descriptions (SPDs) for the desired release(s).)

AlphaStation systems can generally be configured into a multi-host SCSI
configuration with the integrated SCSI adapter.

For multi-host SCSI configurations, you will want to use OpenVMS Alpha
V6.2-1H3, or (better) V7.1 or later. V7.1 and later have support for
port allocation classes, a feature which can greatly simplify creating
  multi-host SCSI configurations.

OpenVMS V6.2-1H3 is a hardware release that contains all of the V6.2,
V6.2-1H1, and V6.2-1H2 releases. V6.2-1H3 contains support for specific
new hardware -- such as EV56 (21164A) systems. V6.2-1H3 does not contain
ECOs or other changes, if your system is supported by V6.2 and you do not
need a configuration or hardware first supported by V6.2-1Hx, there is no
  need to run V6.2-1H3.
