DCPS via TCP/IP (UCX) to HP Printer?

The Question is:

 
Are you aware of anyone sucessfully using an
HP4000N printer with DCPS version 4.5.
We have the latest rom version in the HP
and we receive the following error when trying
to print:
DCPS-W-UNDEF, undefined: Name not known - offending command is defaulttumble
 
 

The Answer is :

 
  There have been previous discussions of the HP 4000N series printers
  here in Ask The Wizard.
 
  Printers, like SCSI devices and fine wines, tend to have variations.
  Even a subtle variantion could be enough to case a problem here.
 
  Resolving what differences exist with these printers may (will?) require
  some amount of direct engineering assistance from the DCPS team.
 
  Please upgrade to the current version of DCPS -- more recent versions
  of DCPS have support for IP-based printer access.  (The Wizard is
  unaware of any present V4.5 version of DCPS V4.5 and will assume that
  V1.5 was the intended version.)
 
  Also please consider an upgrade to a more recent version of TCP/IP
  Services for OpenVMS (UCX), and apply the associated ECO kit for
  the release.
 
  Also check with HP to see if the printer firmware is at the appropriate
  version -- the Wizard is aware of customer reports of problems with HP
  4000 series printer firmware prior to 3.65, where the firmware is not
  compliant with the Adobe Postscript specifications around the response
  to a [ctrl/t] status request -- the printer erroneously returns the
  status message "status: busy" even when it is not busy.  It should return
  "status: idle", and it does so in 3.65 and later versions of the firmware.
  When told that the printer is busy, DCPS will (correctly) stall.  Please
  contact HP support for assistance with the printer firmware version check,
  and to acquire new firmware if necessary.
 
  One customer report of this firmware problem was reportedly occuring on
  the HP 4000N printer with firmware version 3.50.  The problems reported
  with DCPS were alleviated with an HP-provided firmware upgrade to 3.65.
 
  If this fails, please contact the Compaq customer support center.
