VAX self-test codes, SCSI errors on Exabyte 8200?

» close window

The Question is:

Hi.

Is there somewhere where the console device test
errors for MicroVAX 3100 and VAXstation 3100 are
described, ie I'm getting

? 6 80A1 2606.21D0
? 6 80A1 3C1C.31D0

I know this is the external SCSI bus and I know
this is for a third party tape drive (EXB8200, yes
I know, don't laugh!) but I can't find any
documentation on how to work out what the codes
actually mean to see if I'm being told something
useful.

Thanks.
Mark.

The Answer is :

The information on the self-test errors is in the owner's guide for
the MicroVAX or VAXstation 3100 system. Different members of the
MicroVAX and VAXstation 3100 series can and do have different error
codes and different diagnostics, you must explicitly identify the
system model in question when requesting this level of assistance.

Hardware diagnostic codes may or may not be available to the OpenVMS
Wizard, this question is outside the purview of the OpenVMS Wizard
and better suited to the VAX Hardware Support Wizard, or your local
  hardware support organization.

The OpenVMS Wizard is not in a particular position to assist with
third-party SCSI device integration and testing.

The Wizard would recommend ensuring the device firmware is current,
and that the configuration is far shorter than the maximum SCSI cable
length permitted for the configuration -- with SCSI, shorter is better.
Ensure that the SCSI bus is correctly terminated.

The Wizard would also (obviously) recommend using a supported device.
